Health, Dignity, and Development: What Will It Take?

At the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000, the largest-ever gathering of world leaders adopted the Millennium Declaration. From the Declaration emerged the Millennium Development Goals, an integrated set of timebound targets for extending the benefits of globalization to the world’s poorest citizens and making real progress, by 2015, in tackling the most pressing issues facing developing countries. Among those targets is Millennium Development target 10: To cut in half, by2015, the proportion of people with-out sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
